August 21, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - August 22, 2021 @ 2:00 am
Welcome to the Moon to Mars S.T.E.M Rocket Science Lab, hosted by NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, Marco Thompson. This Lab will discuss the basic chemistry and the mechanics of rocket design and how NASA is going to use science, technology, engineering, and math, to bring us back to the Moon and on to Mars!
Early visitors will receive a FREE NASA/JPL Themed swag bag, along with other activities:
Welcoming & Handouts
4:00pm-10:00pm EST
Guests who arrive have the option to visit the handout display and receive their themed gift bags
4:00pm-10:00pm EST
During the daylight hours, telescopes fitted with a solar filter will be available for guests to use to observe our nearest star. After ~8:15pm EST (est. Sunset) The gas giants Jupiter and Saturn will be visible all night as well as Andromeda and many familiar constellations.
Chemistry Lab
5:00pm – 5:30pm EST
A demonstration of the In-situ resource utilization (ISRU) hydrolysis of water to produce hydrogen and oxygen, and how NASA is using this technology to help us live and work on the Lunar surface. The lab will feature components of basic laboratory safety, chemical stoichiometry, and combustion reactions. Presented by the Solar System Ambassador Team in front of guests.
Rocket Lab
6:00pm – 7:45pm EST
This Lab will discuss the basic mechanics of rocket design. Utilizing a safe, reliable, and consistent water pressure system, participants will design and construct (supervised) their own “Rocket” to be launched and measured, in altitude, against other competitors for a chance to win a NASA/JPL Prize Pack. Participants will have a limited time to design and construct their rockets for the competition, families are encouraged to participate together. Materials will be provided and standardized for safety and simplicity. (reference note: these water rockets will usually not fly higher than ~50ft which produces less than ~ 0.31 lb/foot Max. of downward force using 2x 2-liter water bottles, pressurized to ~100psi)
Astronomy Tour
8:45pm – 9:15pm EST
Guided Tour of the night sky by local Astronomers. Exploring cosmic vistas, planets, and constellations, providing an in-depth look at our solar system and our place within it!
